For 25 years, the Wörwag family and the Herrnhuter Missionshilfe e.V. have been committed to education and the fight against poverty in Tanzania. In 2024, we will celebrate this significant anniversary and look back on numerous successes.

A quarter of a century of commitment

Since 1999, the Wörwag family and the Herrnhuter Missionshilfe e.V. have supported vocational schools of the Moravian Church Tanzania. Projects have included renovations, construction of water systems, equipping hospitals, and building dormitories for girls. In 2012, construction began on the vocational school in Songea, followed by another school in Namtumbo in 2014. Over 4,000 young people have received vocational training in these 25 years.

Second dormitory building

Success in Zanzibar

Thanks to the support of the Wörwag family and the donors of the Taza Report 2023, the second dormitory building in Zanzibar was completed. It offers space for 52 students, as well as offices and a teacher's apartment. A total of over 100 students can now stay overnight on the premises. The vocational school for hotel management and tourism has already conducted six courses, with an employment rate of over 90 percent.

Sustainable energy supply

Another project in Zanzibar is the expansion of the existing solar system to supply the school and the second dormitory building with solar power. This not only contributes to climate protection, but also makes the school self-sufficient. The costs for the expansion amount to around €20,000, and a local organization is taking over maintenance.

Namtumbo vocational school: organic food cultivation

In Namtumbo, young people learn not only general subjects but also how to grow fruit and vegetables organically. This ensures a balanced diet and generates income for the school.

Expansion in Ndola, Zambia

Since 2019, the vocational school in Ndola has been offering training in carpentry, electrics/solar, tailoring, and cooking/nutrition/catering. The second dormitory building is almost complete and 20 girls were able to move in in October 2020. The construction of a teaching kitchen has already begun.

Thanks and outlook

If you would like to donate again this year, the amount will go towards expanding the solar system.
